Below, you’ll find straightforward answers to the most common questions I hear from clients just like you. Let’s cut through the confusion and get you the coverage you deserve, without all the headaches.
Getting
Started
When is open enrollment for health insurance?
Open enrollment runs from November 1st through January 31st each year.
During this limited window, you can sign up for health insurance, make changes to your current plan, or cancel your coverage. Missing this period means you may have to wait until the next open enrollment to make any adjustments.
Open enrollment applies to those with health insurance through their employer, Medicare, or the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace. For Medicaid and Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (DSNP), you can enroll at any time.
It’s a great idea to consult with a health advisor before open enrollment to ensure you have ample time to explore your options and choose the best plan for your needs.
How do I get health insurance?
There are several ways to get health insurance, including through your employer, the health insurance marketplace (HealthCare.gov), or by working with an agent to match you to the right plan.
No matter which path you choose, I strongly recommend speaking with a licensed health advisor who genuinely cares about helping you. They can educate you on your options, guide you to the best healthcare coverage, and help you avoid common pitfalls within the healthcare system. I’m here to make sure you’re fully informed and confident in your decision.
Costs
How much does health insurance cost?
Health insurance costs can vary widely based on factors like your age, your health, location, and the type of coverage you need. There’s really no one-size-fits-all answer.
Whether you decide to get coverage directly through me or someone else, I’m here to help you explore all your options so you can make the best decision for your needs and budget. Let’s find the plan that’s right for you!
What is a deductible?
A deductible is the amount of money you need to pay out of your own pocket for healthcare services before your insurance starts to help cover the costs. Think of it like this: if your deductible is $1,000, you have to pay for the first $1,000 worth of medical bills each year. Once you’ve paid that amount, your insurance will begin to cover some of the costs, but you might still have to pay a part, called coinsurance, until you hit your maximum out-of-pocket limit for the year.
Deductibles can be different for each plan. Some plans have lower deductibles but cost more each month, while others have higher deductibles but lower monthly payments. There are also separate deductibles for individuals and families, and some preventive care services might be covered before you even reach your deductible. So, it’s important to understand how your specific plan works.
Providers
What is a PPO plan?
A PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan is a type of health insurance that gives you more freedom when choosing healthcare providers.
Network of providers: PPOs have a network of preferred doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities that offer services at discounted rates.
In-network and out-of-network coverage: You can visit both in-network and out-of-network providers, but you’ll usually save money by sticking with in-network options.
No referrals required: Unlike HMOs, PPOs typically don’t require referrals to see specialists.
When you work with me, I can access all PPO plans, giving you a range of options to fit your needs.
